Mission Statement
To educate, feed and spiritually nurture the children
of Haiti through the power of the Holy Spirit.

H.E.A.R.T.S. supports the work of the people in the Cap-Haitien area in the north of Haiti through both material and financial aid. Funding is sent down each month in support of a food program at an orphanage (Stella House) affiliated with Eben-Ezer Evangelical Church. Funding is also provided to 4 schools: Faith, New Life, Heavenly Light, and Eben-Ezer. This covers the costs of educational programs and teachers’ salaries. Additionally, H.E.A.R.T.S. awards 6 scholarships each year to young adults to attend either college or university.
Funding for these activities is realized through individual donations, monthly hotdog luncheons, an annual 5 km Race for the Children of Haiti, a Christmas Gift Program, and other fundraising activities.
The 5 km run/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m .on October 16th, 2010 with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. Registration and sponsor sheets can be picked up at the church office or by calling the church at (519) 843-3565. All proceeds go to the education of Haitian children at each of our schools.
The “Christmas Gift Program” starts November 1st and gives an opportunity to support a Haitian child while at the same time giving a gift to someone that will last a lifetime. Under the “Christmas Gift Program” you can purchase items such as a year’s tuition ($75), or books/shoes/uniform ($50) for a Haitian student attending our four schools, or a teacher’s salary for a month ($70).
Only fifty percent of all Haitian children attend school, and of these only fifty percent attend government schools. Were it not for the NGOs such as H.E.A.R.T.S. very few children would ever see the inside of a school. In fact, if all the children that are eligible to attend school were to decide that they would go to school on the same day then the government schools would be very, very over crowded. The Government of Haiti does not have either classrooms or teachers to accommodate all the children.
Should you be interested in becoming a part of H.E.A.R.T.S. please contact the church office.
H.E.A.R.T.S. has also organized teams to go to Haiti to assist with work projects. The most recent trip was in May of 2010.

Mission Trip to Haiti – 2010
This past May 9th a work team made up of mostly members of St. Andrew’s flew to Haiti to participate for one week on a project at a school at Bas Limbe approximately 25 miles from Cap Haitien. The drive in the back of a truck was both educational and breathtaking. It gave the team the opportunity to see firsthand how the majority of Haitians live, cooking on charcoal outside a one-room house made of cement blocks, if they are fortunate, and sticks and mud if they are not. The scenery while driving to Bas Limbe was spectacular with mountain and ocean vistas as we bounced along dusty country roads or highways marked by deep potholes. There is no better way to see and experience Haiti than from the back of a truck.
While there we also had the opportunity to visit all four schools and the orphanage that H.E.A.R.T.S. supports. We can report that the children are well cared for, and for many of them were it not for the financial assistance that the schools receive they would never have the opportunity to attend and receive an education.
A sum of money was also given to one of the schools in the rural area outside of Cap Haitien so that they could drill a well for drinking water. At present neither the community nor the school has drinking water and must walk upwards of a kilometer to fill a bottle or bucket with potable water. This well will be a real asset for the community as many of the diseases such as dysentery spread through the drinking of contaminated water.
